Seminars in 2009

Thunderbird Aviation Flying Cloud hosted an FAA Safety Seminar on Monday January 19th, 2009 featuring Mr. Richard Neher, NACO Charting Editor. Thunderbird Chief Flight Instructor Alex Haak, a FAA FAASTeam member, capitalized on an opportunity to bring this specialist to Minnesota. Turnout was tremendous and the event ended up being one of the largest safety events at Flying Cloud in a number of years.

Approximately 130 pilots were in attendance to hear Mr. Neher discuss VFR charts, Airport Facility Directories, and other charting products. Those in attendance heard explanations as to why certain charting procedures are done the way they are, what various charting symbols mean, and basic cartographic techniques used in making aviation charts.

This presentation was the first of many being held at Thunderbird Flying Cloud this year. Besides a number of FAA safety seminars planned over the next ten months, Thunderbird's popular KARE 11 Weather Seminar, featuring Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas, will start up again in the spring.
